We had our Easter egg hunt a few days early to find some of the most ova-the-top (heh) egg-shaped homes out there. From Greenland to California, these homes are Airbnb-approved and ready to host you, your peeps, and all the chocolate bunnies you can handle.
See them after the jump
This geodesic dome is perfect for those wishing to unplug over the weekend. The “no cell phone or computer” policy makes for a quiet cottage experience alongside the Atlantic Ocean. You’re not far from the National Park Alcornocades, so put on your explorer’s hat and go walk through some caves while you’re here. Yes, mom’s Easter ham is divine, so take her with you to the Spanish coast make it all about jamón this year. Just make sure to let her know when you decide to use the “risqué” outdoor shower.
The ostrich egg of egg homes, this three-floor giant is right in the middle of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and the Santa Ynez Valley. If your idea of small, white, and round involves a nine-iron and a putting green, you’re in luck. This home is minutes away from top-ranked La Purisma Golf Course. Kick back with a bottle of local wine and watch the sunset on the beach when you’re done.
Remember using vinegar to dissolve the shell off of an egg in science class? Think that…just much, much bigger. Nestled in the Catskills just two hours north of NYC, this transparent dome is part of a small farm. No need to be shy, though. The only peeping toms are likely to be the farm’s rabbits, goats, sheep, and chickens. Toss some of the local vegetables into your Easter dinner for a meal that is both eco-friendly and farm-fresh.
Bonus: the owners are totally down to let you cuddle the farm’s bunnies. Can you say “Best Easter ever?”
What’s better than an Easter igloo? You won’t find Nanook of the North in these sleek little aluminum domes. Packed with modern amenities (yes, that includes a shower), these igloos are steps away from restaurants, yet right on the edge of Greenland’s Ice Fjord. Think drifting icebergs and Northern Lights. The cold never bothered you anyway.
There are Easter eggs and there are golden eggs. This celebrity-owned retreat is about as high in the sky as its esteemed clientele. At a 1,400-meters altitude, this is a favorite of astronomers (really) and Hollywood’s creative types. Hike through five acres of pristine California countryside and get back in touch with nature. If you need a quick dose of reality (or something like it, at least), Palm Springs is just 40 minutes away. We think you’ll just want to turn around and come right back up here.
