After the wild success of NBC’s live staging of Sound of Music Live!, Fox is hoping to get a piece of the live musical pie by announcing a three-hour broadcast of Grease. As Fox revisits the songs and characters from Rydell High School, the network also hopes to “reimagine some of the most memorable T-Bird and Pink Lady characters.” according to E! Online. It will be some long summer nights before we get to see the special, Fox President Kevin Reilly said that it won’t air until 2015.
“From Broadway to film, and across generations, Grease is one of the most beloved musical stories ever told – and we can’t wait to bring it to our air in a spectacular live event,” Fox’s senior vice president of event series Shana C. Waterman said in a statement. “Its iconic characters and addictive songs make it the perfect fit for Fox, and we’re going to give it the kind of star power and production quality to make every Sandy, Danny, Rizzo and Kenickie out there want to get up and sing along.”
We’re just hoping that John Travolta makes a live TV appearance again, hopefully he’ll remember Sandy’s name.
