It’s no surprise to our readers that Atlantic City and Pro Bar, for that matter, have been a favorite get-out-of-town destination for the Passport team, so it is with sadness that we report that the first gay bar in a casino ever officially closed yesterday, according to employees. About a month ago, Resorts Casino and Hotel pulled the plug on the quite-popular and highly entertaining Divas Do AC show leaving the fate of both the 13th-floor Piano Bar and Pro Bar nightclub’s fates up in the air. According to one source, the hotel is shifting its focus away from the LGBT market and moving more toward catering to “Parrotheads” who have been booking rooms thanks to the opening of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville. The irony of it all is the opening of Margaritaville was supposed to help revitalize Resort’s Hotel Casino and drive more foot traffic to the gay nightlife not to cause its demise. Pro Bar (originally called Prohibition) became the world’s first gay bar to open a casino and in its two years helped us create memories we won’t soon forget and some we’re still trying to remember.
We’ll post more details as we get them.
