Foodies, art lovers, sports fans, and history and architecture buffs have more than enough reason to visit Boston, its neighboring nest of academia, Cambridge, and the nearby town of Salem, which is a a fantastic day trip destination with its own annual Pride celebration, slate of yearlong social events, a world-class art museum (the Peabody Essex), and a wealth of witchy kitsch.

Logan International Airport, which added international carriers Emirates, Turkish Airlines, and Hainan to its lineup in 2014, is accessible via Boston’s T (the subway’s Silver Line) and it is free for arriving passengers.

Taxis, including eco-friendly hybrid cars, take about 20 minutes and fares range between $25-$45. Smartphone app GobiCab can be used to arrange shared taxi rides for those seeking to minimize their carbon footprint or save a few dollars. Amtrak, meanwhile, offers comfortable, quick, and Wi-Fi-enabled rail service from Washington D.C., New York, and other East Coast hubs.
