August is gayer than ever, theatrically speaking, with Philadelphia’s third annual GayFest!—a festival of GLBT theater with two world premieres, two Philadelphia premieres, three staged readings of new gay/lesbian plays, and series of one-night stands. Running August 6-24, the festival presents a rainbow of GLBT performances, beginning with a two-night only engagement of Cirque du Gay: Exposed, a visiting production from Kansas City. It continues at three Philadelphia theaters with world premieres of works by two well-known New York playwrights, Daniel Talbott and Sarah Pappalardo, and Philadelphia premieres of plays by Paul Rudnick and Philip Dawkins. Add in a dozen one-nighters comprising cabaret, performance art, GLBT rock bands, one-person shows, and storytelling, and August becomes the gayest month of the year in the City of Brotherly (and Sisterly) Love.
