GLAAD is asking members of the LGBT community to reach out to family members this Thanksgiving in an effort to promote LGBT rights and marriage equality.
“I’m Letting Aunt Betty Feel Awkward This Thanksgiving” is a new campaign encouraging bravery in discussion of the LGBT lifestyle. According to GLAAD, some of the greatest progress in LGBT equality acceptance comes from people who personally know a member of the LGBT community.
“The fact is, while you’re scarfing down mashed potatoes and staying silent while everyone else at the table is freely speaking their minds, you’re missing a golden opportunity to make real, honest progress by talking about your life, and the things you care about,” GLAAD said.
So stand up (no matter how awkward) and engage your friends and relatives this Thanksgiving.
