Global Cocktail: Hot Buttered Rum from Willows Lodge

This drink is part of a classic winter scene—hot buttered rum served by a fire. That’s exactly what you can find at the lounge called (appropriately) Fireside at Willows Lodge in Woodinville, Washington near Seattle. Willows Lodge is situated on a beautiful, peaceful property located close for convenience yet far enough from the hubbub of the big city to provide a much-needed retreat. And if you’re serious about it—a Jacuzzi or spa treatment, perhaps? Their hot buttered rum recipe can warm even the chilliest night, and it is available in their cozy  lobby, which often hosts live entertainment.

Buttered Rum Base
1 1/2 C cream
1 vanilla bean
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 C + 2 T sugar
1/2 C brown sugar
4oz butter
2 tsp salt
1/2 T molasses

Vanilla Chantilly
1 C heavy cream
3 T sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

2oz of Blue Spirits Distilling Peirates Rum

Prepare Hot Buttered Rum base by bring all ingredients to a boil.
Remove vanilla bean and refrigerate.

Prepare Vanilla Chantilly
 by whipping all ingredients until stiff peaks form
Transfer to a pastry bag with a large star tip.

Pour rum into a tall mug.
Fill with hot water.
Stir in Buttered Rum Base.
Add Vanilla Chantilly on top.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick.
