Grindr is testing a new ultra-premium subscription plan that utilizes AI and will charge users $500 per month. Grindr’s new premium plan entitled EDGE is now going through a trial period in the U.S. Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with subscription prices ranging from $349.99 to $499.99, according to PinkNews.
The new subscription plan will be a tier up from Grindr’s established subscription plan, which includes Grindr XTRA and Grindr Unlimited. Grindr EXTRA offers extra app features like a special Incognito Mode, ability to unsend messages and to see who has viewed your profile, plus unlimited profile filtering.
Grindr Unlimited offers these same tools with an ad-free interface, plus the ability to see who has read your chat messages, unlimited expiring photo messaging, and international settings to allow you to swipe the globe.
Now Grindr EDGE takes it a step further, offering users AI-powered tools and features like recaps of previous conversations with your matches, daily personalized profile recommendations, and profile insights that allow users to find matches they are most compatible with.
Some users suggested that if you need to pay $500 on Grindr, it might be more cost efficient to just hire a real life matchmaker, but Grindr is focused on offering a more technologically advanced user experience, announcing recently that they would become an AI-first company. They aim to become “a faster, smarter, more personalized app that helps you connect with less effort and makes every conversation count.”
While online dating has grown to be an increasingly popular way of meeting people in recent years, younger generations are beginning to lean more on AI-tools as a social and romantic crutch. A recent study on American singles from Match.com and The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University found that 1 in 4 singles and almost half of Gen Z are using AI to enhance their dating prospects online. CBS News reports that’s a 333% increase from 2024.
