Few female artists have been as influential as Frida Kahlo, and few can argue that her tumultuous relationship with Diego Rivera wasn’t a driving force behind much of her work. The myths that surrounded them during their lifetime arose not only from their significant body of work, but also their active participation in the historical happenings around them. Their art speaks of a fierce loyalty to and pride in Mexico, the zietgeist of the 1910 Mexican Revolution, and their commitment to the conditions of the common man. Now, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia has brought together an exciting collection of their works in the exhibit Frida and Diego: Passion, Politics, and Paintings. Catch the exhibition before it leaves Atlanta on May 12.
