In a follow-up to their January rally, hundreds of thousands of protestors descended on Paris to oppose legislation that would allow gays and lesbians to marry.  The rally, which brought the masses around the Arc de Triomphe, had protestors chanting and holding signs that read things like: “Don’t touch marriage, take care of unemployment!” and “Everyone is born from a man and a woman.” A large contingency of older French people comprised the rally, but young protestors, trying to get near Champs-Élysées, clashed with riot police and the police fired tear gas at them. Despite the large turnout, studies still find that a majority of French are in favor of same-sex marriage. [NYT]
