Hurricane Sandy Devastates Ali Forney Drop-In Center—How You Can Help

The Ali Forney Center in Chelsea, New York was created in 2002 to support homeless LGBT youths in New York City. Due to the tragic events of last week’s hurricane, the main drop-in center—just a block from the Hudson River—and the resources it provided, including medical care, HIV testing, mental health services, and housing referrals has been more or less completely destroyed. While the plan to move to another space in the near future is the eventual hope, for the time being, services such as the 24-hour drop-in center is being provided at smaller spaces.  For now, the Center has enough donations of warm clothes and food, and they kindly ask that for those who want to help send monetary donations by clicking here.

If you’re in New York City, you can make a difference by showing up at Industry Bar, located at 355 West 52nd Street in Manhattan, on Sunday, November 11 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. The event’s hosts will include actress Ally Sheedy and celebrity photographer Mike Ruiz. Tickets are available for purchase at the door for $20, and 100% of the event proceeds from ticket sales, bar service, and raffle items will go to the AFC.
