The Illinois Senate approved a bill today that extends the freedom to marry to gay and lesbian couples in Illinois. The vote was 34–21 and will now move on to the Illinois House of Representatives. Governor Pat Quinn has consistently spoken in favor of passing gay marriage in the state, but there is still work to be done. Without continuing the gay-marriage momentum, Congress may not pass the legislation to bring it to Quinn’s table.
