The Illinois Senate voted to approve public schools to teach LGBT history. In a vote of 34-18, the Senate says that schools must require the teaching of history of the LGBT community in concerns to their contributions and role in society.
The bill is thanks to Democratic Sen. Heather Steans who made the argument that schools teach the histories and contributions of different races and nationalities.
It would require schools to teach a history unit on the role in society and contributions of gays, lesbians and other LGBT individuals .
The legislation goes to the House.
