Indian City Elects its First Transgender Mayor

Independent candidate Madhu Kinnar has won the Raigarh Munipal Coroporation mayoral election, making her the first transgender individual to hold office. “People have shown faith in me,” the 35-year-old Kinnar said. “I consider this win as love and blessings of people for me. I’ll put in my best efforts to accomplish their dreams,” she added after reciving word of her victor over Mahaveer Guruji.  Surprisingly, Kinnar received widespread support from the community. “It was the public support that encouraged me to enter the poll fray for the first time and because of their support only, I emerged as the winner,” Kinnar added.
