Is ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Star Alaska’s Next Crown: Gay Horror Icon?

Step aside Babadook, there’s a new LGBT horror icon making the scene and it’s…Alaska?

That’s right, the RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 winner is making her monster debut in The Quiet Room as demonic spirit Hopeless Hattie. The water-logged ghost represents anxiety and depression and takes hold of people who have attempted suicide.

In an interview with the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News site she said, “I’ve been saying that we need gay superheroes. We need queer horror movies. It’s necessary.”

Alaska is no stranger to ghosts since she recently took part in the reality show Scared Famous where she and other VH1 stars competed against one another in tests of courage inside of a supposedly haunted house.

The film will be shown this year at the FilmOut LGBT Film Festival in San Diego which starts on June 7 thru 10. It also stars Jamal Douglas, Chris Salvatore, and Brian McCook aka Katya, another Drag Race alum.
