When New Jersey high school senior Jacob Rudolph accepted the Class Actor award at his school, he was called up to give a speech to his graduating class. Rudolph decided to use that time to open up about who he is and tell everyone that he is gay. “Sure, I’ve been in a few plays and musicals, but more importantly, I’ve been acting every single day of my life,” Rudolph tells the crowd. “You see, I’ve been acting as someone I’m not… you see me acting the part of straight Jacob, when I am in fact LGBT,” reports the Huffington Post. The speech, which was recorded then edited by Rudolph and his father, was placed online. Rudolph, like many other gay people, was afraid to admit his sexuality to others. With the help of his good friend Scott Hester-Johnson Rudolph created a pros and cons list to help him make his decision on whether to tell people. He realized that all of his cons might not actually come true. Although he has not fully decided if he is exclusively gay, the speech earned him a standing ovation and his parents couldn’t be more proud. His video has had may hits.
