Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and cracked plenty of jokes all while giving some awesome tidbits into their futures and their past. Tomlin and Fonda confirmed that a sequel to 9 to 5 is currently being written—confirming a long-running rumor.
Then, Tomlin, who is about to turn 80, talked to Ellen about a little-known piece of LGBT history. Back in the 70s, Time had actually asked Tomlin if she’d be willing to appear on the cover of the magazine and come out as gay.
“It was a hard decision to make,” Tomlin said to DeGeneres. “I fell down on the side of… probably after what you went through, probably good sense,” the Grace and Frankie star said. “I decided that I wasn’t going to play their game,” Tomlin said. “I wanted to be acknowledged for my performance.”
