Now that sexual assault is finally the topic of conversation in this country, Vice President Joe Biden and Lady Gaga teamed up to bring the subject further into the national zeitgeist. Biden and President Obama began a campaign called “It’s On Us,” which worked to prevent sexual assaults on college campuses (though our new Secretary of Education Devos is working hard to dismantle protections for sexual-assault victims). The campaign works to shift the thinking on sexual assaults, blaming everyone and not just the victim.
“Lady Gaga has been the voice for people who have been forgotten, the people that have been abused,’ Biden says, introducing the singer. ‘It happened to her and she’s shown enormous courage. We want to make it real clear: It’s on us, it’s on everyone to intervene, to stop abuse when they see it,” Biden says introducing Lady Gaga who has been an outspoken advocate of women’s rights and sexual-assault survivors.
