LGBT Activist from Belize Wins Coveted Award for Overturning Anti-Gay Laws

It is a large part due to the hard work of an LGBT activist that Belize’s anti-gay laws have been overturned. Caleb Orozco will receive the David Kato Vision and Voice Award at an annual fundraising gala dinner of the Kaleidoscope Trust on January 26 for his work overturning the country’s sodomy law. He founded the United Belize Advocacy Movement that challenged the law in court, and it was finally struck down by Belize’s supreme court.

The award is given in recognition of David Kato, who was murdered in Uganda in 2011 largely because of his LGBT advocacy work.
