We can’t think of a better place to spend Valentine’s Day than on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida than celebrating Pride Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, Feb. 11. More than 60,000 people are expected to convene at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park for “Love Pride.” This year, though, organizers may see a boost in attendance thanks to their A-list roster of special guests: Grammy Award–winning British singer and songwriter Estelle
(“American Boy” ft. Kanye West, “One Love,” “You Can’t Hurry Love” and her recent dance hit, “Something Good”); Internationally-acclaimed actress, singer and flamenco guitarist Charo, best known as a frequent guest star on the iconic ’70s TV show “The Love Boat”; Transgender model and singer Laith Ashley, star of the TV’s Oxygen network series “Strut”; and Celebrity DJs Tracy Young, Deanne and Power Infiniti will be spinning from the main stage throughout the day
Pride Fort Lauderdale celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2017. The first Pride festival in the state of Florida, Pride South Florida (now Pride Fort Lauderdale) was originally organized as a political protest after voters in Miami-Dade County overwhelmingly supported a referendum to rescind a historic gay rights ordinance in 1977.
Dance the night away at a number of sanctioned dance parties and other events are planned both on the beach and in nearby Wilton Manors so visitors and residents alike can make it a weekend event, but don’t miss out on a dazzling fireworks display. The weekend opens on Friday, Feb. 9 with the Official Kick-Off Party at the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale, featuring a meet and greet with Charo, silent auction and light bites from local restaurants.
