Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel married his partner Gauthier Destenay, in doing so, he became the first European Union leader to become married to a person of the same sex. He is not, though, the world’s first same-sex married leader as Iceland’s prime minister,¬†Johanna Sigurdardottir, married her partner over five years ago. Destenay has kept out of the public spotlight, only showing up alongside Bettel for a few events, including the royal wedding of Prince Guillaume and Princess Stephanie. The two married at town hall, and they aren’t expected to go on a honeymoon. [NPR]
