Mark Takano is the “first openly gay person of color” in Congress for California’s 41st congressional district (though he gives you permission to use ‘gaysian’ and his role in the Republican-led house has proven to be oh-so vital in the wake of the massacre in Orlando. The New York Times sat down with the six-foot-one congressman to talk about everything from homophobia and his fellow congressmen to fixing Marco Rubio’s grammar.
