Mr Gay World 2019 was supposed to be taking place April 28-May 4 in Hong Kong, but event organizers say that it will no longer happen. The annual competition announced that back in July that the world-attended event would, for the first time, happen in China. Fans of the event on social media may have already noticed a push for fans to attend the competition.
Plans, though, have changed after the hosting company, which is based out of mainland China, said that they will no longer organize the event as a result of a “clampdown on LGBT events and campaigns,” according to PinkNews.
“It is with great disappointment that I’ve been informed that Mr Gay World will not be able to go ahead in Hong Kong due to the struggles that our Chinese colleagues and their families are facing in their homeland,” Butter said.
“The safety of our delegates and their families is of utmost importance,” he added.
The event will now be taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.
