MTV to Launch Kinda-Gay Series, ‘Faking It’

On April 22, MTV will premiere “Faking It,” a scripted series whose premise probably would’ve been laughed out of a TV network just five or ten years ago. Two unpopular girls decide that they will “fake it,” and pretend they are in a lesbian relationship to get in with a new high school clique — “the gay kids.”

The show seems to have MTV’s usual, acerbic pop culture wit—with snappy dialogue and snappier Teen Mom references. It also features gay actor (and United States of Tara standout) Michael J. Willett. The show’s premise is bold, and it could go many different ways; it seems inevitable that MTV will attract a curious viewership.
