New York is set to lead the way on another LGBT-rights front when legislation will be introduced on Friday that calls for a ban to gay-conversion therapy. The legislation will be modeled after a similar bill that was passed in California that bans therapist from practicing the harmful therapy. Currently the bill is on hold in California because of two lawsuits that question its constitutionality. Despite the challenge in California, New York’s Sen. Michael Gianaris and Sen. Deborah Glick feel the time has come for New York to ban the practice. “There are often challenges to any manner of legislation that is protecting of the LGBT community and you can’t sit on your hands and wait until things get resolved somewhere else,” said Glick.
