Olympic medalist Adam Rippon says that he will not attend the White House invitation for Olympic Team USA winners, but will instead throw a party supporting LGBT rights.
“I have no desire to go to the White House,” Rippon told the Daily Mail. “But I would like to do something to help my community.”
“I won’t go because I don’t think somebody like me would be welcome there,” he had said. “I know what it’s like to go into a room and feel like you’re not wanted there,” he told the BBC.
Openly gay freeskier Gus Kenworthy, who also won a medal, said that he too wouldn’t accept an invitation to the White House.
“I was so incredibly honored to do that when Barack was president,” Kenworthy told The Advocate. “I have no interest in going now.”
