Now that anti-gay bigot Pat McCrory lost his reelection bid, it’s time for a new chapter for North Carolina. The gay-welcoming state, in which more than half of residents were opposed to McCrory’s bathroom bill, is welcoming in a Democratic governor, Roy Cooper. Cooper says that he wants to assemble a bipartisan coalition to work to run many of his departments. He also says that he will end HB2.
Republicans, though, remain a majority in the House and Senate, and they will be able to veto the bill.
“I believe that most or all of the legislators understand the severe economic impact of House Bill 2 that it’s having on us and that something needs to be done,” Cooper said in a phone interview.
