It is official, Rhode Island will be the tenth state to recognize gay and lesbian marriage—the state Senate approved the bill with a 26 to 12 vote. The governor is expected to sign the bill. Same-sex marriage licenses are expected to be available as soon as August 1 now that the senate approved it. All that is left is for a routine final vote and then it is passed on to Gov. Lincoln Chafee to sign. Civil unions will no longer be offered, but ones that were already done in the state will still be recognized. [LATimes]
