San Francisco 49er’s cornerback Chris Culliver is still doing damage control (rightfully so) after his gays “gotta get up outta here” comment in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. While we shook our heads when he made a probably publicist-driven apology, Culliver is taking his apology one step further by announcing that he’ll begin working with LGBT teens at The Trevor Project. He’ll first undergo a sensitivity training and then learn from the organization about suicide prevention among LGBT youths. “We really feel that education about LGBT youth and the challenges they face is a great way to get (Chris) started on the right path,” said Lauren McGinnis, communications director for The Trevor Project, “especially since he’s a role model.” [NFL]
