San Francisco International Airport will rename Terminal 1 after Harvey Milk to honor the pioneering gay rights hero. The name change, which has been discussed for over five years, was the idea of city supervisor David Campos who wanted the entire airport’s name to change. The proposal, though, was then shortened to just change Terminal 1 with support from Supervisors Hillary Ronen and Jeff Sheehy.
Additionally, the terminal could see artwork featuring Milk.
“in order to honor one of the nation’s great gay leaders, raise awareness of the history of the LGBT movement, and give hope to young LGBT people in cities everywhere, the Board of Supervisors finds it fitting that a terminal at the San Francisco International Airport be named in honor of Harvey Milk,” reads the new legislation.
