In a major step for transgender rights, the Scottish Government has announced that it will introduce gender-neutral bathrooms in all public schools. The guidelines for the standards for schools called the Consultation Document on Updating the School Premises will include a requisite protected transgender and non-binary students.
The current guidelines only include half boys and half girls, but the new rules read: “The School Premises Regulations do not prescribe standards for accessible sanitary facilities for persons with a disability or refer to unisex toilets that could address gender issues. Therefore, the Regulation needs to be updated and simplified to meet current expectations.”
Maybe the United States can a learn a thing or two about what a non-issue having a safe space in schools is.
