Straight men are having a revelatory amount of same-sex sex, and more people than ever identify as bisexual, according to a new study by the Center for Disease Control.
Between 2011 and 2013, researchers were tasked with interviewing more than 9,000 men and women aged between 18 and 44, about all things sex — sexual experiences, sexual partners, and sexual orientation, included.
According to the CDC’s findings, there are more self-identifying straight men engaging in either oral or anal sex with another guy, then there are gay men.
The CDC found that 1.9% of men said they were gay, while another 2% identified as bisexual, an upsurge of near twofold from 1.2% in the last survey.
However, another 2.3% of men engaging in gay sex identified as straight, for a grand total of 6.2%.
Casey E. Copen, the study’s lead author, says that, in reality, there’s more to it than facts and figures, CNN reports. “For some people … they may or may not have had the experiences they’re contemplating, [especially] if they’re younger.”
The next survey, says Copen, is due out next fall, and will cover 2014 and 2015. Chances are, we have an even queerer year in review to look forward to.
