We’ve been waiting since 2010 for Virgin-mogul Sir Richard Branson to make good on his bet with Air Asia Group CEO Tony Fernandes. The bet was that if Branson’s Formula One team ranked lower than Fernandes’, then Branson would work an Air Asia flight as an Air Asia stewardess, which means he’d have to comply by all the rules that Air Asia flight attendants have to. “…He has to comply with our grooming standards and that includes shaving his legs, donning high heels, putting on some makeup and slipping into the AirAsia’s famous red uniform,” Fernandes said. Well, Branson’s racing team lost and the British-born billionaire has been postponing slipping on that cute little red skirt for nearly two years. Well, finally, a date has been set. Branson is set to work an AirAsia X’s flight D7 237 from Perth to Kuala Lumpur on May 12. And, tickets are still available for $420. The one-way flight will feature games and activities, as well as a billionaire serving-up hot coffee and cookies. Better yet, $100 from each seat and 10% of all inflight sales on board will be donated by AirAsia X to the Starlight Children’s Foundation in Australia.
Branson is not unfamiliar with wearing women’s clothing, he famously wore a dress for the 1996 launch of Virgin Brides, and again he wore a dress for the unveiling of Vie. Seems like this billionaire is in touch with his feminine side. [DM]
