He may live in the land of Mike Pence, but a mayor from a city in Indiana married his partner and celebrated the union by attending a pride event. South Bend, Indiana Mayor Peter Buttigieg (BOOT-edge-edge) tied the knot with his partner Chasten Glezman over the weekend.
Buttigieg was named a “rising star” in the Democratic Party thanks to Barack Obama, he wasn’t always so open about his sexuality. It wasn’t until the then-governor Mike Pence signed a “Religious Freedom” that he felt the need to come out in an Op-Ed.
“I was well into adulthood before I was prepared to acknowledge the simple fact that I am gay,” Buttigieg wrote.
The two met on an app and didn’t meet in person for a few months—carrying out their initial romance on Facetime. But soon, united over their love for carnival games and politics.
After the couple married, they hit up a LGBTQ Pride block party in South Bend before going to a reception.
