Arguably the beginning of the international LGBT rights movement, the Stonewall riots will forever be remembered with an official day, Stonewall Day. Each year, on June 28, according to Pride Live Nation, various activities will take place to commemorate that fateful summer night when the queer community stood up to police.
The first Stonewall Day will take place next year on June 28th in recognition of the 50th anniversary.
In order to raise awareness of the Day, over 50 celebrities have been named Stonewall Day Ambassadors.
“Over the next 12 months, the Ambassadors will work together to elevate awareness and support for the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI), the official 501(c)3 of the Stonewall Inn.” Just a few of the names include: Chelsea Clinton, Bryan Lourd, Laverne Cox, Robbie Rogers, Anna Wintour, Geena Rocer, and Cleve Jones.
