In a Wednesday post on HuffPost Politics, Black Star News Editor and Publisher Milton Allimadi penned an impassioned open letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry. In the letter, Allimadi focuses on the fact that Ugandan Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa is up for the position of president of the United Nations General Assembly. Allimadi states that such a decision would be an embarrassment to the UN, highlights the oppressive and human rights-violating tenure of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and that Kutesa has been the president’s “advisor and spokesperson.” Allimadi goes on to specify the implications of this position, saying “He [Kutesa] is part and parcel of all these transgressions including the invasion of neighboring countries, which is a violation of the United Nations’ cardinal rule — the respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.” All this, of course, is not to mention Uganda’s reprehensible policies toward LGBT rights.
At the end of his letter, Allimadi draws readers’ attentions to his petition against Kutesa on Change.org, indicating a good first step of action to invested parties.[h/t Huffington Post]
