From now through July 31st, you can enjoy an exquisite celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and dining flavors in the National Capital Region. Talented chefs and amazing restaurants will curate exceptional menus that showcase the best of their culinary artistry.
Taste of Pride (ToP) is an annual multi-tiered event series celebrating the rich connection between the LGBTQ+ and culinary communities. This year’s program will feature a multi-month collaboration between DC’s Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) that showcase the distinctive flavors and culinary talents within these vibrant neighborhoods.
Taste of Pride aims to blend the culinary artistry of Washington DC with the pride and diversity that define our community, paving the way for a vibrant WorldPride celebration.
According to the Washington Blade, Taste of Pride has partnered with local restaurants across the District to support local LGBTQ+ organizations. Brandon Bayton, Special Projects Influencer Manager for Capital Pride told the outlet that with the growing popularity of D.C.’s foodie scene, the event offers the perfect opportunity to support local businesses. “The restaurants that are participating are really stepping up to show their support for the LGBTQ community-especially in these troubling times right now. For them to step up and say, ‘Hey, we support you,’ it’s an opportunity for us to share them with our community and say, ‘We can support you too.’”
Bayton is Taste of Pride’s lead planner and producer and has ensured that each participating location is committed to creating a safe space.” Bayton has also made it a priority for restaurants to highlight their neighborhoods unique queer history. “Some of these restaurants are doing actual events, from drag events to poetry readings and hosting artists,” Bayton told the Blade.
