Telecommunications Company Brings Wi-Fi to Rio de Janeiro’s Beaches

Ever need to instantly Instagram a pic of that super-hot guy on the beach of Rio, but find yourself with limited Internet service or none at all? Well, we haven’t either, but this hypothetical dilemma is about to change as Linktel Corporate, a Brazilian telecommunications operator, recently partnered with Orla Rio to connect Rio de Janeiro beaches to a Wi-Fi network. Connecting both tourists and locals alike is just one of the many steps being taken to bring the Brazilian city up to speed for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games. And you won’t have to wait too long for the service to be available. The companies hope to have it up and running later this month in Leme and Copacabana and will, in 2013, extend to Leblon, Ipanema, São Conrado, and some parts of Barra da Tijuca. [BW]
