While England, Wales, and Scotland all have marriage equality, gay and lesbian marriage in Northern Ireland has been left in limbo after years of failed attempts, and the prime minister refuses to do anything about it. Theresa May is being accused of hiding behind her party, the Democratic Unionist Party, by not acting on gay and lesbian marriage despite massive support for it in Northern Ireland.
“This is an issue that we have taken up, it is an issue we have championed,” she insisted. “We hope that there will be a Northern Ireland executive in place soon that will be able to address these issues.”
The DUP is the reason why gay marriage is not the law of the land in Northern Ireland as they’ve blocked legislation in the past.
