Donald Trump is at it again when it comes to squashing LGBT rights and protections. The administration had already issued a directive in August that expanded “religious exemptions” for federal contractors, and now they are hoping on expanding this policy. Trump now hopes to formalize regulations to allow for businesses with federal contracts to create a loophole in order to legally discriminate against the LGBT community. This new policy would circumvent an Obama-era directive to end discrimination against the LGBT community.
The Office of Management and Budget confirmed the news on their website with a statement that said that there are “plans to update its regulations to comply with current law regarding protections for religion-exercising organizations.” So far there is no draft text available, so specifics are limited on how exactly this may impact the LGBT community.
