Frightening Statistic Finds that Two Thirds of All New HIV Diagnoses in Europe are in Russia

As HIV prevention education, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, and more effective treatments become common place in the Western world, we’ve seen new HIV diagnoses numbers stabilize or decline. A new statistic, though, has found that Russia, with a population of 144 million, recorded an alarming 98,177 new cases in 2015—a 15% increase. The percentage increase, skews the entire continent of Europe, which, because of Russia, saw an 8% increase in all new HIV cases. Russia accounts for 64% of all new HIV cases in Europe, with .8% of its population living with HIV.
