In a bold move, University of Virginia students have launched a social-media campaign called We Are All UVa. It aims to explore the idea of the word “diversity,” and it does this by featuring students holding up placards featuring anecdotes and phrases describing some aspect of how “diversity” relates to students’ college lives. We Are All UVa can be found on Facebook and Tumblr.
In the above photo, a sports team (UVa’s swim team) stands up for their gay teammates with a sharply phrased placard. Considering the controversy regarding gay athletes in the locker room (see recent headlines about Michael Sam and the NFL), this is a significant statement, and a well-put one at that.
