Room-sharing platform Airbnb aired a 60-second spot during Wednesday’s ESPYs Awards in honor of Caitlyn Jenner, who accepted the evening’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
The Angela Bassett–narrated ad, “Is Mankind?,” features a baby ambling toward a glass-paned door, culminating with the words “mankind,” “womankind,” “transkind,” and “humankind.”
Jenner’s July cover of Vanity Fair, in which she presented as a woman for the first time, shed new light on transgenders in mainstream media. Just over the duration of the award ceremony, corporate brands including Airbnb and Google aired ads centered around trans* people. But as the former Olympian went on to note in her remarkably poignant speech, the community by and large still faces tremendous obstacles.
“Is man kind? Are we good?,” Bassett asks. “Go see. Go look through their windows so you can understand their views, sit at their tables so you can share their tastes. Sleep in their beds, so you may know their dreams.”
