Did James Corden give Elton John a run for his money in his latest installment of “Carpool Karaoke?” Well, maybe not, but the Late Late Show host did hold his own during their spirited sing-along.
When rock legend Elton John took a ride with Corden, the two sang some of his greatest classics, like “Your Song,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” “Tiny Dancer,” and “Crocodile Rock.”
“I was never a lead vocalist,” John told Corden in regard to his oft-outrageous costumes. “Not like Bowie or Jagger. I was playing the piano…I wasn’t a sex symbol, and so I had fun with my outfits. And I just went with it.”
In promoting his 32nd album, Wonderful Crazy Night, John name-checked artists like Ed Sheeran and Grimes (Can we expect an Art Angels collaboration?) as artists who inspire him, and shared that he doesn’t own a phone to this day.
“I’m only looking forward. I don’t look back,” John said. “Whenever you hear something new that inspires you from the young, it makes you feel ‘I’m gonna do that, I want to do that.’ So, I still have the energy of a 20-year-old, and I want to carry on… Once you stop, you die.”
