Young Gay and Lesbian Iranians Launch Facebook Campaign

Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad may have infamously told the world that “We don’t have any gays in Iran,” a statement that young gay and lesbians in the country are quickly dispelling using social networking. The recently launched Facebook page titled “We Are Everywhere” is an online visibility campaign that features videos, audio messages, and images. The page also encourages other LGBT people to come forward and share their story. Laws in Iran continue to criminalize sexual minorities (just last week three men were hanged for sodomy). Because of this, users on the Facebook page keep their identities hidden. [PinkPaper]
