Though a majority of the U.S.’s most popular Pride celebrations took place in June, the fun continues both domestically and abroad. If you’re still looking to celebrate Pride this year, head to sunny California to attend Pride in San Diego on July 20-21, or pack your bags for Silicon Valley Pride August 24-25. Also yet to occur is the ever-colorful New Orleans Pride, which is set for August 29 – September 2. In Phoenix, Arizona, Pride is on October 19th and 20th.
Fun also awaits across the pond in Europe with Amsterdam Pride, slated for July 27 through August 4. In Barcelona, celebrations will take place July 3-16, in Belfast July 19-28. Antwerp Pride in Belgium is scheduled for August 7-11. For those looking to really party, Berlin Pride awaits July 25-29.
Here are three highly recommended Pride events across the globe to add to your travel calendar in 2024.
Johannesburg, South Africa (October 26)
Back for its 35th year, Johannesburg Pride brings color to the city streets for one day only! Attendees can expect a vibrant and colorful Pride Parade with magical floats, vibrant costumes made with love. Live entertainment brings world-class performers, local talents and DJs to the stage along with inspirational speakers. Also discover local resources that support the LGBTQ+ individuals or explore displays of art and culture from the community. Vendors will sell everything from handmade clothes to jewelry, bubble tea, candles and more. This Pride is small but mighty, run by volunteers, and is Africa’s oldest LGBTQ+ celebration; those who march each year march not just for South Africa’s LGBTQ+ population, but wider Africa where LGBTQ+ rights are very much restricted. Haven’t got enough Pride at the festival? Head into the city for queer-friendly events at famous bars like Babylon, The Rec Room Bar & Gay Sauna, and more bars the Melville and Illovo queer neighborhoods.
Taipei, Taiwan (October 24 – 27)
Taiwan was the first Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage, so naturally their Pride celebrations are some of the best and biggest in East Asia, bringing in around 200,000 visitors each year. This year, dance, sing and mingle in the official Gay Pride Village located in front of town hall. Here live performances and parties are held all day and into the evening. Attend special circuit events like the Formosa Rainbow Music Festival, a gay music festival which overlaps with Taipei Pride and hosts three night parties and one tea dance. Various DJs, GoGo dancers and drag performers will entertain the masses at Zepp New Taipei, a concert venue less than 20 minutes from Taipei’s gay bar scene. On Saturday, Taipei’s Pride Parade steps off from town hall and marches through Taipei to end back at the Pride Village.
Buenos Aires, Argentina (October 26 – November 2)
Buenos Aires comes to life for Pride Week or Festival Semana Orgullo in October, an event which drew in approximately one million visitors in 2023. Celebrations kick off on Saturday with outdoor activities, art displays, live music, DJ sets and dancing in the Gurruchaga neighborhood of the city. Throughout the week over 30 organizations and groups will host activities and house booths to spread awareness and information leading up to the highly anticipated Pride Parade. In Buenos Aires, this parade has taken place on the first Saturday of November since 1992, and it steps off, marching band in tow, from the Casa Rosada in Plaza de Mayo, moving toward the National Congress building. Rainbow banners and colors are displayed throughout the city in solidarity, and municipalities throughout the country celebrate with their own parades as well.
