Liquor brand Jägermeister has heralded a campaign throughout the pandemic called the Save the Night Initiative, which has been dedicated to helping keep local bars open during the pandemic. And upon hearing the news that only 15 lesbian bars remain in the US (and that the pandemic is seriously threatening their livelihood), Jägermeister has vowed to extend their campaign by including the Lesbian Bar Project to the lineup.
The project is dedicated to educating people about the importance of lesbian bars, preserving their history, and fighting to keep the last remaining ones open for future generations.
The campaign released a video to spread awareness about the initiate. In the spot, historical photos of past bars are shown, images of current bars are featured, and Orange Is the New Black‘s Lea DeLaria narrates.
According to AdWeek, Cliff Rigano, director of culture, lifestyle, and event marketing at Mast-Jägermeister US said,
“We are thrilled to support this campaign and its mission to preserve these establishments and shared culture for the LGBTQIA+ community. This is an important movement as these establishments are a crucial part of the nightlife scene and it will allow for lesbian bars to continue flourishing, not just following the pandemic but for generations to come.”
Jägermeister has also declared that they’re working on an upcoming docuseries about past and present lesbian bars. When more info about the show is revealed, we will keep you updated.
