Fans around the world became obsessed with the wild, almost unbelievable feud between big cat activist Carole Baskin and breeder Joe Exotic in Netflix’s popular docuseries, Tiger King.
Now, Peacock dives behind the scenes of the lives of both Joe and Carole and explores their escalating conflict, and even the making of Tiger King with the new limited series Joe Vs. Carole. In the show, John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus) will play Joe Exotic and Kate McKinnon (SNL) will play Carole Baskin.
Based on the podcast “Joe Exotic,” hosted and reported by Robert Moor, the series is set to shed new light on the story that fans are likely already familiar with, diving into the background and history of both Joe and Carole, exposing the lives that led them to the fateful documentary that would make them both famous.
Showrunner, Etan Frankel, said in a statement, “Joe vs Carole is a wild ride. It’s a fun and rich journey into the story of people who live very extreme lives. When I took on this project a year and a half ago, I found Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin to be utterly fascinating, and this crazy tale about two big cat lovers quickly became an important story for me to tell.”
Both of the show’s leads are LGBTQ, which is a great move forward for diversity in the streaming space, as it’s still rare to find a show with LGBTQ leads. Plus, as the trailer shows, the dynamic between Mitchell and McKinnon is absolutely electric, providing moments of tension and humor, which is sure to make Joe vs Carole an addicting and hilarious series that’s bound to get some Golden Globe and Emmy attention.
Joe vs. Carole is set to premiere on NBC’s streaming service Peacock on Thursday, March 3rd.
