In response to Trump winning a second term as president, women are swearing off men, expanding the ‘4B’ movement which originated in South Korea.
In his previous term as president, Trump appointed the three conservative Supreme Court judges who made it possible to overturn the landmark pro-choice case Roe vs. Wade. In his campaign rhetoric and during his first term, Trump often insulted female politicians, not to mention the famous “grab her by the p****” comment that went viral during his first presidential run (and didn’t lose him the election).
During his 2024 campaign, Trump often referred to his Democratic opponent as “Crazy Kamala,” and has made a habit of using demeaning language for women across all political spheres.
Now, women have decided to put their foot down, and as a result are cutting off sexual relationships with men and swearing off childbirth and marriage.
A similar movement took shape in South Korea in 2019 and was named “4B.” Women protested the country’s “pervasive” misogyny by rejecting relationships with men. The 4B name comes from four Korean words that represent this notion, according to Pink News. “Bihon” which means refusing heterosexual marriage, “Bichulsan” or to refuse childbirth, “Biyeonae” abstaining from heterosexual dating, and “Bisekseu” the refusal to engage in heterosexual sexual relationships.
How far does the 4B movement reach in the USA? According to Sky News, following the 2024 presidential election posts on social platforms mentioning 4B have been engaged with over a million times, reaching upwards of 45 million accounts. Gaining traction, social media users have been quick to churn out even more content explaining the movement. Additionally, Google Trends shows searches for the term have increased considerably.
Pink News predicts it will take the movement months to gain any real traction in the USA.
