Ryan Murphy revealed that the cast of his upcoming Netflix film, The Prom, had reunited during the COVID pandemic to finish shooting the movie. He also said that it’s slated for release at Christmastime.
The movie is based on the 2016 musical of the same name and follows a group of fading Broadway stars who decide to revamp their careers through an ill-planned publicity stunt. The group decides to head to a small town prom where drama is brewing over a female student who wants to take her girlfriend to prom. The Prom opened in Atlanta before heading to Broadway in 2018 and was met with rave reviews by critics and audiences alike.

Murphy’s photo reveals a star-studded cast including Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannells, Kerry Washington, and Keegan-Michael Key, among many others.
In Murphy’s Instagram post, he describes The Prom as being “an inspirational aspirational story that we all need right now.” If the film is anything like the hilarious musical, then it should be a fun time, perfect for the holiday season.
Deadline also reports that The Prom made history in 2018 when its two stars kissed during a performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, marking the first time an LGBTQ couple had kissed in the parade’s history.
With Murphy at the helm of the film adaptation, audiences can be sure the movie will be filled with laughs, wit, and charm.
